We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate what a fantastic season the juniors have had at the club, than a day out on the Welsh coastline playing some links golf. Myself and the junior forum entertained the juniors at one of Wales top links courses, Southerndown Golf Club, Bridgend. 17 Juniors, 3 academy members and 9 adults set off bright an early from ROWGC in a coach that was funded by money raised at the club. Certainly the members at ROWGC have been so kind at the club running raffles and donating money for the development of junior golf and days like last Sunday proved the strength we now have in our section.
We had a full day planned with breakfast on arrival, an 18 hole team competition and individual stableford. The juniors certainly had a great time out on the links battling the changeable conditions and enjoying the very different style of golf. Many of the juniors adapted nicely to the conditions learning to control their ball flight in the blustery conditions. Jayden Decloedt finished the day on the top of the leaderboard with a fantastic 40pts. Julia Wilde, Phoebe Barber and Abbie Bishop won the team prize with 108pts and Freddie Unthank won the best score from an academy member with 48pts.
We finished the day with a light bite in the clubhouse and headed home on the coach, the juniors had a fantastic day and i must commend Southerndown golf club on their fantastic course. It was a refreshing change to play a links course of that design, with the juniors learning so much from the experience.
I would like to thank all the junior forum for helping me organise the day and all the juniors for coming along. Again to all the members that have supported the juniors in our fund raising, without your support we wouldn't be able to go on these fun day outs. Also special thanks to ROWGC member Stuart Carter-Smith for his cool video of the day.
