36 Pairs took part in our first ever Adult/Junior Championships at the club last week and what a day it was. This "Open to all golfers" championships was certainly different to the norm, music playing on our feature holes, special on course challenges, fun and games pretty much all day!! One competitor said to me "its like a Championship of the future". We wanted to give the day a cool, funky vibe, that appealed to all golfers, we also wanted to make it inclusive of all standards which was behind our decision in allowing professionals.

The first tee shot was hit by one of our tournament organisers, ROWGC member Julia Wilde. The buzz around the 1st tee was evident in every group as our guest starter, Stuart Carter-Smith introduced every competitor. The kids loved the impressive sound system as it pumped out the tunes between every group teeing off.

On the 12th hole we broke away from the serious golf and made the adults tee off left handed filming every attempt, then on the green the juniors took on the putting challenge attempting to hole a 40ft putt from the back of the green. To our amazement two juniors actually holed the putt down the hill and across the green, for those of you who have played the 12th hole at ROWGC you will understand thats a pretty amazing feet!!

Our other feature hole was the 16th where the adults were again made to do something a little different, this time it was teeing off with a putter....again we saw some amazing efforts from the adults, some said it was better than hitting a driver.

Even with our challenges the betterball scores were amazing, the full handicap format maybe changed for next year as these Juniors are way to go for that!! It was fantastic to see my THSG pupils in the winners circle. The notables were Joe & Sofia Benitez winning the overall championships with a fantastic 51points and Jay Greig winning the individual nett prize with 64nett.

All in all the day was a huge success and we would like to thank everyone that was a part of making it happen. We had amazing support from our brand partners including Ping, Motocaddy, Titleist, Glenbrae, TaylorMade, YOB Golf, Bushnell, Severn Seas and The Leett Putting Hub. I would also like to thank the ROWGC members for there kind donations and for all there help on the day. Next years date has already been confirmed, the 2018 Adult/Junior Championships will be held on Sunday 30th September. We are already actively looking for more brand partners to come on board for next years championships so please get in touch if you think you would be interested in being part of this fantastic day.
