Wow....what an unbelievable story we have to report in this weeks blog. Myself and Oli were away last week running a corporate day for SIG at the beautiful Woburn Golf Club. Woburn has hosted many great tournaments this year including the ladies British open, final qualifying for the open championship and this weeks seniors european tour event.
There was no better venue to host the SIG (Speedline Cup) hosted by ROWGC member Craig Newman. The day was action packed with myself and Oli running various clinics in the morning on long and short game.
Following on from our lessons the competitors took to the course to battle it out in a ryder cup format, which included a special beat the pro competition on the 14th. I was the lucky pro to do battle with the competitors trying to tackle the tough 202yard par 3. There was a special Mercedes up for grabs for anyone who hit the unthinkable shot!!
A few well struck shots by yours truly saw the first few groups go through disappointed. I was feeling pretty confident as group 4 approached but i certainly wasn't prepared for what was about to happen!! Gary Rice who is a member at Woodbury park gc in Devon stepped up to the tee after a bit of barracking by myself and hit what can only be described as the 'perfect shot'. A high towering hybrid took one bounce before disappearing into golfing darkness, the £30,000 Mercedes was Gary's with everyone jumping joy.
The celebrations went well on through the night making the lengthy bar bill all worth it. Gary had this to say after his round
Craig donated the £360 proceeds from the beat the pro competition to Warren's captains charity which was greatly appreciated. Massive thanks to SIG and Craig for allowing us to be part of the day.
