After our first ever overseas teaching trip to Penina last year myself and Oli vowed to make it a regular trip with the ROWGC members. We had such fun last year making it tough to beat, but with what we learnt from previous experiences we made a few changes and this year made it bigger and better!!
This time we upped the numbers to 32 golfers plus myself and Oli. Monarch did their best to disrupt the trip but after a few minor changes to the travel arrangements and Penina being awesome to deal with, we finally got it sorted!!
We were greeted with awesome weather from day one which lasted for the whole trip which really did put the icing on the cake!! With a few changes to the group coaching structures we managed to cover 6 main areas of improvement in full swing, pitching, chipping, bunker play and putting. We even managed to offer individual swing checks mid way through the week to keep everyone on the straight and narrow.
On a personal level after a morning of tuition it was great to then play with a mix of members out on the course in the fun team competitions we set up. As with the game we all played some good and some bad golf, but on the whole i was very impressed with the standards from everyone. Myself and Oli voted Geoff Stooke, Chris Butler and Red Shaw our pupils of the week for performances both on and off the course.
After a hearty breakfast, a morning of tuition, 18 holes of golf, Happy hour in the bar, it was onto the evenings fun and games and the members certainly didn't leave anything behind here!! There was lots of laughter and some awesome cuisine at the hotel and in the local town. We were certainly spoilt by the hotels staff and well looked after.
We certainly had a grand send off on the Saturday night being invited to a special St Andrews Ball at the hotel. A Scottish band was flown in especially for the occasion which was ran by a group of Scottish locals. We had bagpipes, Scottish dancing and a 4 course buffett to enjoy and enjoy it we did. It was the perfect end to a perfect trip!!
All in all it was a fantastic trip with a fantastic group of people, myself and Oli feel very lucky to be able to put something like this on and for it to be such a success. Thanks once again for all the members that supported the trip, we will certainly be making this into an annual event!
