THSG Pupil Wins National Title

Its been an awesome journey for the THSG so far working with some very talented young players over the past few years. We have been lucky enough to work with some high level elite amateurs and pro's playing at the highest level.

Our US College contingent includes players all across the UK and america playing in various leagues. Close to home Niall has been flying the THSG/ROWGC flag at Kirkwood college based in Cedar rapids in Iowa. Over the past 6 months Niall has introduced us to a fine young player called George Kalpakas who is in his first year at Kirkwood. George is originally based in Cyprus where he grew up and played the majority of his golf at his home course Aphrodite Hills. We have put together a program for George and taught him online via various teaching platforms. Our holistic approach to his improvement has allowed us to build in change to technique and given him the pillars in place to practice better and improve performance both on and off the course. Like Niall, George is a real pleasure to work with and is a real student of the game.

After a busy first year at Kirkwood George headed back home to Cyprus at the start of May, to prepare for a busy summer season playing various competitions at his home club. His major the Cypriot Amateur championships just so happened to be in his first week back home. Players from all over the world fly into play this championships which was held at Elea golf club close to Georges home town. This competition is steeped in history and ironically has never had a Cypriot winner. The tournament is recognised all over the world, with world ranking points up for grabs.

The course was set up really tough and unseasonably hot and windy conditions plagued the opening rounds. George showed fantastic mental strength to battle hard in the first two rounds which saw him leading by just one shot heading into the final round.

After speaking with George after every round i could tell that his mind and game plan was solid and just following it could see him through for the victory. We all know how hard it is to cross the finish line but George did it in style, when it mattered he shot a -1 par back 9 to win by 4 shots from the nearest competitor. George passionately knocked in a 6 footer on the 18th, followed by a 'Tiger' esq fist pump to take the title and be the first ever Cypriot to win the championships. The hometown crowd around the 18th cheered George in and i was lucky enough to get a FaceTime with him straight after, congratulating him on the impressive win.

Myself, Oli, James and Niall who have all been part of George's improvements are so proud of him. George is going to be spending sometime with us in June training with the THSG at the club, if anyone fancies a game with him while he is here, please let me know.

Well done again George ....

June Group Clinics

Our June group clinics are all about saving you shots from tee to green. Don't forget our resident putting expert Oli Leett has his very own LPH group clinics, head over to his website to sign up. They are fantastic way to learn about key areas of performance both on and off the course. We have had some fantastic success stories from pupils that have regularly attended our group sessions and we strongly believe that they need to be part of every golfers improvement program.

Saturday 9th June - 2pm-3pm -  Supercharge Your Driver Swing

Venue - Driving Range / Driver

Supercharging your driver swing so you get every last yard out of your drives is key to succeeding at this game. We will be looking at key sequences in the downswing and how we can gain yards by stronger foundations in your swing.

Sunday 10th June 2pm-3pm - 3 Is The Magic Number!

Venue - Driving Range - ALL CLUBS

Statistically all golfers can hit lower scores by improving their 3rd shot on every hole. Discounting putting this is normally an approach play club, a mid iron, a wedge, a chip onto the green, these are what wins tournaments and lower handicaps. We will be covering the importance of approach play from 150yards and in.

Saturday 23rd June - 2pm-3pm - Taking Your Range Game To The Course

Venue - Driving Range - ALL CLUBS

Their is a real science in playing the game and having a solid approach to your practice both on and off the course. I will take you through the key pillars of practice and how to get the most out of your practice time. Standing in one place hitting fifty balls to one target doesn't simulate the environment we play in out on the course. After this session you will have a structure to your practice that will deliver results out on the course.

Friday 29th June - 12pm-1pm - Find More Fairways = Greater Control Into the Green

Venue - Driving Range - ALL CLUBS

We love long drive clinics and finding golfers distance but statistically if we can hit more fairways we increase the probability of hitting more greens especially around our tight golf course here at ROWGC. Bring back the control in your driver swing and start finding the short stuff, we will give you guidance and help you find your 'stock shot' so you can bring back the control in your game!!

** To sign up for any of the above clinics please email tim@timhallschoolofgolf.com or call 01989 720439, you can also sign up in the golf shop with one of the team. These sessions are £10 per person, which includes an evaluation with coffee, in the pro shop after the session. **

We understand so much more about impact in the modern day game because of the technology we now have at our finger tips. During this session we will be working with the awesome GC2quad launch monitor to understand more about your impact. We will be looking at strike tendency and how that correlates to gaining more distance off the tee.

Saturday 14th April 12pm-1pm - Iron Play 100yards and In - Know Your Numbers!!

Venue - Short Game Area - All Clubs
GROUP LIMITED to 4 people

The GPS market is one of the fastest growing areas of golf retail at the moment. Every golfer is buying into these awesome tools to help them understand more about their distance into the pin......BUT do we really know how far each club goes ??? During this clinic we will be working in the 'scoring zone' of 100 yards and in. You will go away with a clear mapped out system for understanding your yardages with each club from 100 yards and in. We will be limiting the numbers to just 4 people during this clinic.

Sunday 22nd April - 12-30pm-1-30pm - How To Make Perfect Contact Every Time

Venue - Short Game - PW,GW,SW,LW

Do you want a bullet proof short game ??? Get Up and down from everywhere in and around the greens ?? Of course you do.....statistically the average 18 handicap golfer plays 75% of their total number of shots in a round from 70yards and in. In fact this stat doesn't really change too much for all golfers. We will give you the sound fundamentals and the basic swing principles that will help you conquer this area of the game!

Friday 27th April - 2pm-3pm - Bullet Proof Bunker Play

Venue - Short Game Area / SW & LW

Their is so much poor information out their on bunker play and often very confusing. I will give you insights into a tour proven method that amateurs can actually perform very easily. Its the most forgiving method and one that i have personally had the most success out of. You will walk away from this session confident and actually looking forward to your next bunker shot!! It really is that easy!

We will first of all talk about what makes a great chipper and pitcher giving you real life examples from both the mens and ladies tour. In this session we will play from a range of lies, slopes, distances and targets to help you understand why its so important to have a devise/adaptable short game.

Saturday 24th March - 3pm-4pm - Radically Improve Your Approach Play

Venue - Driving Range 100 yards and In / ALL CLUBS

Do you want to give yourself more birdie and par opportunities?? Hitting your approach play shots closer will take stress off your putting allowing you to free your mind and stroke. If we are constantly missing the green or leaving ourself huge putts from 100yards and in, sadly our scores won't improve. In this clinic we will cover strength and stability in your set-up and how this has to be maintained throughout the swing to help deliver more consistent results at impact!
